This project examines constituent order in Saami and Kurdish languages. Both language groups (each consisting of several closely related languages) display some variation with regard to the ordering of constituents within the verb phrase. Drawing on language documentation corpora, I investigate which factors condition the variation, thereby providing a thorough description of constituent order in natrual discourse in the respective languages. Moreover, I aim to contribute to a better understanding of variable constituent order cross-linguistically and to develop new methods for working with small corpora.
