Phillip Durrant is a world-renowned corpus linguist specialized in first and second language written development, exclusively investigating vocabulary, the emergence and use of collocations, and formulaicity from a usage-based perspective. In his talk, he will discuss the process of conducting a corpus linguistic study into vocabulary sophistication in children’s writing, with a focus on some methodological “nuts and bolts” of collecting, preparing, and analyzing data to draw empirical conclusions.

This talk will be especially of use to graduate students who struggle designing and conducting a research study within a theoretical framework as they make crucial methodological decisions on the way.

If you are interested in attending the guest lecture, please send an email to zeynep.koylu@unibas.ch before May 10.
