In this 2-day-workshop, participants of HSS receive in-depth information about funding possibilities for their doctorate and after the completion of their doctorate: how-to plan, prepare and write a grant proposal in HSS.

Day 1:
• STAY UPDATED: Information about important current developments and upcoming changes, Switzerland esp. SNSF in HSS and impact on you
• YOUR CHANCES: Overview SNSF/CAREER, offers University of Basel, overview private foundations
• YOU MATTER: Detailed information about concrete career funding possibilities on your level: for your doctorate and after completion of the doctorate
• YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS: Plan & prepare a convincing grant proposal: 5-step model, key-elements, part 1
• HOW-TO: The most important application documents, challenges & best practice for HSS, part 1
• TAKE ALL: Tipps & Tricks, Do’s and Don’ts

Day 2:
• YOU MATTER: Discussion & short individual feedback by the trainer towards the concrete application document worked out by each participant
• YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS: concept & write a convincing grant proposal: the most important elements of a success-orientated project design on your level
• HOW-TO: The most important application documents, challenges & best practice for HSS, part 2
• TAKE ALL: Tipps & Tricks, Do’s and Don’ts
• TEAM-WORK: Creativity is all you need
• SUMMARY of the workshop focus HSS

Methods

  • This workshop will be run online (headphones and room without disturbances: obligatory)
  • Theory, practical & interactive exercises
  • Lot of time for Q&A

Target Group

All Doctoral candidates of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Theology

Requirements

  • Preparatory work onto Day 1 and intermediate practical exercise onto Day 2 (obligatory for participation)
  • The development and presentation of a short outline offers the participants practice-oriented knowledge that they can apply to future research funding applications

About the Trainer

Susanne Matuschek, MATUSCHEK CONSULTING: 20 years expert on research funding and career development in academia. Hereof e.g., more than 8 years as head of two funding schemes in the Career Division of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Cair of European working groups on “Research Careers in Europe”. Since 2010 Susanne Matuschek leads her own company MATUSCHEK CONSULTING in that field offering Workshops, Webinars & individual Coaching.

Workload

Total of 30h (course attendance 12h, preparation 6h, homework 12h)

Feature

This course is reserved for doctoral candidates of the Faculy of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Once registration is open, applications will be collected for 24 hours and course places allocated by lot. All registrations received after the initial 24h period will be put on a waiting list and assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Course places/places on the waiting list will be confirmed by e-mail. Course registrations can only be canceled before the registration period ends (send an e-mail to grace@unibas.ch). Full course attendance is mandatory. Participants who fail to attend a course without prior notification or withdraw after the registration deadline are subject to a fee of CHF 30. In addition, participants who cancel their course registration at a later point in time, are absent without an excuse or do not attend the entire course will, for reasons of fairness, not be considered for course registration in the following semester and will be removed from other courses offered in the same semester.
