From June 2–4, the SIG Writing Conference 2026 will take place in Winterthur.
This is the largest writing conference in Europe and attracts researchers in writing research and writing pedagogy. The conference is organized under the auspices of the Special Interest Group of EARLI (European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction).
Traditionally, the conference covers a wide range of topics related to writing. This year, however, under the theme “Writing Research for Writing Practice,” the focus is on how (empirical) research can support the teaching, assessment, and development of writing competence. There will also be a strong emphasis this year on “writing with AI.”
The program includes two keynote lectures:
“Bridging Research and Classroom Practice” (Vera Busse, University of Münster)
“Cognitive and Ethical Alignment of LLMs with Humans for Writing Research and Instruction” (Evgeny Chukharev, Iowa State University)
as well as the Hayes Award Lecture: “Writing Fluency in the Perspective of Fluency Research” (Markus Linnemann, Koblenz)
In addition, the program features 106 individual presentations, 46 poster sessions, 8 roundtables, 7 symposia, and 9 demonstrations of software and tools.
Early-bird registration is open until April 29.
