The ISLE Online Forum discusses efforts to document early varieties of World Englishes. An online forum allows international participants to engage and share their experiences of compiling and working with historical World Englishes corpora, and we will hear about three different corpora: the Historical Corpus of English in Nigeria (HiCE Nigeria); Corpus of Historical Indian English (CoHInd); and the Historical Corpus of English in Trinidad and Tobago (HiCE-TT). We also introduce The Oxford Corpus of Historical English and explore how historical World Englishes corpora contribute to this project, and to lexicography more broadly.
- What types of historical materials are available, and how accessible are they?
- How far back do historical sources go for different varie es of English?
- What possibili es are there for compiling spoken historical data in World Englishes?
